On Prom,

Being back home and seeing my old high school almost everyday has got me feeling all nolstagic! And now that spring is here, I thought I'd pay tribute to my alma mater by picking out my "four years out of high school" prom dress. (Couldn't choose just one, so here we go with a few)

Remember Kara Janx from Project Runway? Remember how she should have won? Yeah, well, that's why I want to wear this dress to prom. I'm totally digging it in a huate couture kinda way, but then I remember that this is high school and most of those people will be all, "Why do you have a big bow on your dress?". And normally I would tell these people, "Because I am beautiful like a present. You don't know anything about fashion, how dare you! This is a dress designed by the uber fashionable Kara Janx! You shall repent!" But that would really put a damper on the whole prom thing, so I will concede and play it safe with this very similar dress from J Crew:

Cotton Convertible Wrap in Turquoise by Kara Janx, $253
Emily silk chiffon dress in Mosaic Blue by J Crew, $165

Mini dresses can equal one of two things: hot, or slutty. I like to lean more towards the hot than the slutty. So I turn to Samantha Treacy:

Shopbop (God bless their souls!) describes this dress as "quiet elegance." We agree! Elegant, fun, classy, and very unique. I do believe it will photograph well also.
The perfect shoes to match...

T-straps are undeniablly sexy.

Samantha Treacy Jackson Dress
, $435
Jill Stuart Shoes Astrid Sandal, $368

Moxie's Prom Advice:
1. Dress your age. Remember: this is not your wedding. Being 16,17, or 18 means fun and fresh. Your dress needn't be floor-length. And showing massive amounts of skin is always a no-no. You're a lady above all things.
2. Shoes matter. Make sure they're comfy and that you can move in them!
3. Leave the tiara at home.
and of course...
Have Fun!!!

xoxo, M.

What I'm Living in Now: Salt and Pepper

American Apparel. Simple? Yes. Kinda porn-y? For sure. Totally comfortable? Hell yeah.
I've been searching for the perfect hoodie lately. And by lately I mean like a year. My old favorite hoodie lost its zipper, and when I found out it would cost $15 to have the tailor fix it I decided it was time for a new one. (Not that I'm giving up on the old $0.99 red hoodie with the broken zipper, I just won't be wearing it every day anymore)

So finally last week I walked into American Apparel. I must admit, I have never been a big fan. All the bright colors, the minimalist atmosphere, the heroine-chic sales people... BUT. Right there. In the front of the store. The perfect hoodie.

Unisex Salt and Pepper
Zip Hoody

The website describes it as "A fitted sporty unisex hoody in our Flex Fleece fabric." (Why do they spell "hoodie", "hoody"? I don't know. I'm sticking to my spelling though.) Their "Flex Fleece" fabric is 50% cotton, 50% polyester, which we all know is the best mix ever for t-shirts and hoodies that you want to wear in. So soft.
So I've been wearing this hoodie for the past week now, and I don't want to take it off. The $40 price tag was a bit steep, but trust me - it's worth it.

Chanel Rips

Don't call me inactive!
I kid, I kid. To get me going again...
There's been some hubbub in the blogosphere concerning the new plastic Chanel bangles.
Looks very similar too a certain Jessica Kagan Cushman, don't you think...?

The Cushman ones are written on ivory and are inferiorly better than the plastic Chanel, no?
And here's JKC's response (via fashionista)

Drama, drama. Gotta love it!

Marc Jacobs Fall'07 Runway

Footage from Marc's Fall 07 show (from style.com), with an interview of the beloved designer

They're So Lovely: Marc Jacobs Patent Leather

They were on sale. It was an unbelieveable, unheard of sale. And the lovely man at Bloomingdales said, "They just look perfect on you!". Perfect! And surely this noble man from Bloomingdale's wouldn't lie to me. He also said I could wear them to the White House. ("That's how perfect they are.") I don't really understand this comment, but I care not.
I must admit, I did not walk into Bloomie's looking to buy a pair of 4" Marc Jacobs patent leather heels. But I supposse it was destiny. The only pair left. In my size. On sale. Marc Jacobs. So here they are, my lovely, meant-to-be shoes. I will be wearing them everyday for the next year in order to equalize the "cost-per-time worn" with all my other shoes. I am wearing them now. In my pajamas. And they are fabulous.

I'm too tall for you, anyway: Flats!

I'm feeling the spring vibe already, and after all the Christmas/New Years festivities I went through wearing killer heels (translation: Yes, I looked killer, but they also killed my feet), I am ready to pay homage to the ever-lovable flat shoe. Especially for the 5'10" and counting ladies. So let's get to it:

Charlotte Ronson Kidada flat

These are great because they're comfortable, casual, yet still chic. Why should ballerinas have all the fun? I love them.
Available at shopbop.com here: Charlotte Ronson flat (Original price $130, on sale for $39! Go Go Go!)
12th Street by C.V. Miller Flat
available through shopbop.com here: 12th Street Flat

Not on sale, but perhaps worth the $265.00 price tag? If not, try these Michael by Michael Kors flats that I ordered from zappos.com ... they're super comfy, and very similar to the 12th Street ones:

Michael by Michael Kors Gillian Flat, $98, available here

Marc by Marc Jacobs Peep Toe Red Flats ($315.00) available here: Peep Toe Flat

These actually have a slight (1/2"?) wedge heel, but they're still tres chic/comfy.

And finally, even if it is just for kicks - - jelly shoes! I love them, I love them, I love them. So fabulous. Well, at least I thought so when I had a pixie haircut and spent most of my day playing with my Rainbow Bright doll and selling lemonade on Emerald Street with my brother. Marc Jelly Shoes, $100.00

And below, the one, the only, Rainbow Brite...

Hope everyone had a great weekend!!! xoxo, M.
